• The 2007 New York Auto Show car

• Unique paint and interior combination; one of one

• 5,700 miles from new; incredible performance

• Recent full service by AMG tech at Mercedes-Benz; stunning technological package

Introduced in 2003, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren represents a spiritual throwback to the immortal 300SL of 1954 – 1963 and the 300SLR racer of 1955. Developed jointly with England’s McLaren Technology Centre, which at the time was partially owned by Mercedes, the SLR McLaren utilized carbon-fiber construction and cutting-edge technology in every system.

With its basic layout described as “front mid-engine, rear-wheel drive,” the engine was pushed as far to the rear as possible to locate its center of mass behind the front wheels. Power comes from Mercedes-Benz’s 5,439 cc supercharged SOHC V-8, an all-aluminum unit with three valves per cylinder and race-derived dry-sump lubrication. A Lysholm-type twin-screw supercharger provides 13-psi boost pressure, good for a massive 617-bhp output at 6,500 rpm. There are two intercoolers. The AMG Speedshift R transmission provides three manual modes. Other remarkable technical features include the Sensotronic “brake by wire” system with carbon-ceramic discs and an automatic airbrake.

Predictably, performance is world-class with acceleration from rest to 60 mph in the 3.2- to 3.5-second range, the quarter-mile in 11 to 11.5 seconds and a 209-mph top speed.

The SLR McLaren is particularly desirable not only by virtue of its exclusivity, stunning performance and brilliant styling but perhaps most importantly due to its status as the final road-car resulting from the partnership of Mercedes-Benz and McLaren. This example is known to be the singular example created in the special combination of Crystal Palladium Grey with a “Silver Arrow” light brown leather interior. This was a special factory order for the New York International Auto Show held in April 2007. According to the current Carfax report, this vehicle suffered minor damage under the first celebrity owner (resulting from the improper closure of a garage door), which necessitated a windshield replacement. As stated in the Carfax report and a supporting letter, there was no frame damage, no airbag deployment and no panel replacement. The letter also states that “the damage cost a relatively insignificant amount to repair,” with the total repair invoice amounting to approximately $7,500.

With two owners and just over 5,000 miles from new, the SLR McLaren is offered with a recent, comprehensive service with invoices available. As one of the iconic first-generation coupes built, this very special SLR McLaren offers a rare opportunity for supercar ownership. With only about 1,150 cars originally sold, low-mileage examples such as this (the 2007 New York show car, no less) are difficult to find. As offered, it marks an excellent opportunity to acquire one of the world’s finest modern supercars—one that is certainly destined to become a future classic.
