  • Offered from the collection of John Moir
  • The ultimate iteration of the early Triumph TR concept
  • Largely original and well preserved

In the early 1990s, John Moir acquired this complete and largely original Triumph TR3A from a gentleman in Conway, New Hampshire, which is about 20 miles from the Moir “summer place.” It had been in the gentleman’s family for many years, and it had been well kept in much the same condition in which it appears today. The car is equipped with grey wire wheels with chrome knock-off hubs, dual driving lights mounted atop the front bumper guards, and a rear-mounted luggage rack. Both the British Racing Green finish and spartan black interior are well-aged, although both would clean up nicely for driving. The car has not been driven in some time and would require some sorting before being driven on the road.

Mr. Moir relates a favorite amusing story about the TR3A:

"My neighbor, Dick Fryberger, and I were in the Triumph several years ago; he was driving. The left rear wheel began creaking, and he found it was loose on the axle, so he was driving very cautiously back home when the wheel came off and rolled into the Chocorua River. Dick said he would go look for the knock-off nut and I should get the wheel and tire out of the river. There was a young man fishing and I asked for help. He fetched the wheel out, and there was the knock-off hub as well! What had fallen off were the nuts that held the wheel to the inner adapter plate. We were able to get a local garage mechanic to replace the nuts, and we got home safely."

This is a quality TR3A from a gentleman who has enjoyed driving it, and it would be an excellent car to freshen and enjoy, or it would be a wonderful basis for restoration.

Please note that this lot is titled as a 1959.
