By 1957, David Brown’s original gentleman’s saloon, the DB2, had grown into the DB2/4 Mk III, with redesigned bodywork and an upgraded DBA-specification engine that could provide up to 178 horsepower with the optional dual exhaust outlets. Detail refinements enhanced the exterior, and a redesigned instrument panel moved all gauges directly in front of the driver.

The DB2/4 Mk III offered here was ordered through American importer J.S. Inskip, but it was actually delivered new here, in France, specifically to Morris Fischer, an American who resided in Nice. For the past 20 years, it has resided in the South of France, where it has undoubtedly been a striking figure on local roads. The original Aston Martin build sheet, a copy of which accompanies the car, notes delivery with the desirable optional front disc brakes, as well as with armrests on both doors, rubber floor mats, and a Smiths oil temperature gauge.

The car, which was restored in 2008, retains its original matching-numbers engine, and it is finished in the original colours of Golden Brown over Connolly VM 3097 hides. The engine was rebuilt with upgraded DB3S racing pistons, for improved performance, which has come in handy, as the car has been enjoyed in some recent road rallies, including the 2012 Summer Marathon, Varese Coppa dei Fiori, and Premio Guastall (in which it was nominated as the best-looking car). It has been maintained as part of a prominent European collection, in which it has been well-looked after in a climate-controlled garage, and it is accompanied by paperwork that relates to its original purchase and the original owner’s manual.

This wonderful Mk III is well-sorted for fun, fast driving, with its condition being described as near-perfect, and it is now being offered, again, in its home country of France, where it is offered with considerable pride of place.
