Vintage Motor Cars at Meadow Brook Hall

Pebble Beach Concours, AACA and International Best of Show Award Winners Highlight Single-Day Auction Lineup of Spectacular Offerings – July 31, 2004

BLENHEIM, Ontario, Canada (May 26, 2004) –RM Auctions’ Vintage Motor Cars at Meadow Brook is expected to be one of the company’s most impressive and diverse offerings of classic American and European pre- and post-war classics to date when it opens July 31, 2004. Held in conjunction with the world-renowned Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance, this year’s event features a number of major award-winning vehicles that will electrify auction audiences.

Headlining the sale is a spectacular 1934 Packard Twelve Custom Dietrich Convertible Victoria – one of only three remaining examples of the four cars originally built. This outstanding Packard, lovingly restored to a concours-winning quality, has a pre-sale estimate of $1,000,000 to $1,200,000.

Another early consignment is a rare Cadillac-powered 1953 Allard J2X “LeMans” sports racer that comes from the estate of one of North America’s premier Allard authorities with a pedigree that includes an interesting early race history plus Pebble Beach and Meadow Brook Concours’ awards. Its pre-sale estimate is $145,000 to $195,000.

Additional exceptional and award-winning Meadow Brook vehicles include:
  • 1932 Marmon Sixteen Victoria Coupe – rare and beautifully restored (Estimated at $200,000 – $250,000)
  • 1959 Ford Skyliner – a 2003 International Ford Retractable “Best of Show” winner (Estimated at $40,000 - $50,000)
  • A pair of highly desirable Jaguar XK 120 Fixed Head Coupes (Estimated at $30,000-$40,000)
  • A pair of 1920s Marmon Indy Race Car recreations – (Estimated at $25,000-$35,000, offered without reserve)
  • 1956 Ford Sunliner –AACA National Senior First-Place winner with less than 26,000 actual miles
  • A group of “Nickel Era” cars, including a 1922 Mercer Sport Touring, a 1920 Locomobile Victoria Top Touring and a 1920 Revere Sport Touring car

    “We have put together a terrific line-up for this year’s Meadow Brook sale,” says Rob Myers of RM Auctions. “I doubt collectors will have another opportunity to purchase as rare a beauty as the Packard Dietrich or vintage racing machines of the heritage and uncommon quality as we have lined up for this event any time soon. This is one sale collectors don’t want to miss.”

    RM Auction’s Vintage Motor Cars at Meadow Brook Classic Car Auction will be held at the Shotwell Gustafson Pavilion at Meadow Brook Hall on the grounds of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday July 31, 2004. Vehicles can be previewed beginning Friday morning, July 30th from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

    RM Auctions will mark its 25th Anniversary in 2004 and will host a variety of special anniversary celebrations and events throughout the year, including an official anniversary party July 16-18 at RM’s headquarters in Canada for customers, automotive notables and VIPs and featuring a special on-site Concours.
