S. Ray Miller Collection

Magnificent Duesenberg Belonging to Al Capone’s Lawyer Tops List of Autos and Memorabilia To Be Auctioned at No Reserve – October 15-17, 2004

BLENHEIM, Ontario, Canada (July 21, 2004) – Car collectors can bid on a colorful piece of Americana when the 1930 Duesenberg, originally owned by Jake “The Barber” Factor, the lawyer for crime boss Al Capone, crosses the block at RM Auctions’ special S. Ray Miller Museum Sale, October 15-17, 2004. Jake Factor, also a member of the famous cosmetics family, purchased the stunning Duesenberg Model J Murphy Roadster when he served as Capone’s right-hand man in Chicago.

“It’s hard to describe the quality and scope of this collection,” says Rob Myers of RM Auctions. “The S. Ray Miller Museum includes everything from a 1900 Locomobile Steam Runabout to a 1903 Ford Model A that is one of the earliest surviving examples of Henry Ford’s first car. Eight of the cars in the collection are considered ‘100-pointers’ having been judged perfect in one or more competitions. Each of these cars is an important and significant example that any collector would cherish.”

The S. Ray Miller Auto Museum in Elkhart, Indiana is the result of years of dedicated collecting of autos and antiques by founders S. Ray and Linda L. Miller, who together amassed the collection which also includes a restored historic American four-square farmhouse located on 20 acres of manicured grounds. The collection, which started with just a few cars, grew to include 40 vehicles and one of the largest collections of automotive badges and emblems known to exist. Over 500 exceptional lots will be up for bids - all at “no reserve”.

Everything in the Museum collection will be sold, including an incredible array of automobilia, petroliana collectibles, vintage signs, historical auto artifacts, fire equipment, antique furniture, jukeboxes, period clothing, clocks and artwork from the golden age of the automobile. Even the contents of the farmhouse, which includes impressive examples of period pine and oak furniture, spinning wheels, and porcelain, will be auctioned.
