A FOURSOME OF MILLION DOLLAR RACE CARS TO SET THE PACE AT RM AUCTIONS’ ANNUAL MONTEREY AUCTION

The Monterey Sports and Classic Car Auction

’64 Ford GT 40 Prototype, ’32 Alfa Romeo P3 and ’58 Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France Stand Ready to Break Records at Monterey Sports & Classic Car Auction – March 19-20, 2005

BLENHEIM, Ontario, Canada (May 05, 2005) – Each year, RM Auctions organizes outstanding million dollar consignments at its annual Monterey Sports and Classic Car Auction, offering serious collectors some of the finest and most desirable automobiles available in the world today. The 2005 event, scheduled for August 19-20 at the Portola Plaza, features four exceptional sports and racing cars – each with a tremendous history.

1960 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato - One of only 19 ever built, this superb Zagato chassis # DB4GT 0199/L is the second car that was hand-built and completed in Italy by famed coachbuilder Zagato. The special alloy bodied Zagato features a more powerful engine than the standard GT producing 314bhp and impressive performance figures even for today. Finished in Italian racing red with a deep black leather interior and carefully maintained by the same owner for the last 30 years. (Est: $ 2,900,000 - $ 3,200,000)

1964 Ford GT 40 Prototype - Headlining the RM Monterey auction is the winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1965 with Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby behind the wheel. Noted drivers Masten Gregory, Ritchie Ginther and Phil Hill first introduced this particular car as a 1964 Ford Factory entry at LeMans, Reims and Nassau. Sold to a private racing entrant in 1966, this GT 40 has been owned by the same individual for the last 38 years and is painted in its historic 1966 racing livery. While it was fitted with a Ford Indy DOHC engine 15 years ago for Historic Racing, this Ford GT 40 is a stunning time capsule reflecting the epitome of racecar design of its era. (Pre-sale estimate: $1,950,000 to $2,450,000)

1932 Alfa Romeo P3 Tipo B Monoposto - Representing one of the featured marques at the 2005 Pebble Beach Concours, this incredible Alfa Romeo sports car came from the Scuderia Ferrari racing team. The car quickly became known simply as the “P3” as it obliterated its competition throughout the 1932 Grand Prix season, winning all three championship races at Monza, the famed 14-mile Nurburgring, and Rheims. One of only six P3s built for the 1932 season, this car is chassis # 5006 and was sold to the Marquis Raphael Bethenod de las Casas, who raced it into the late 1930s. (Est: $1,800,000 to $2,200,000)

1958 Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France Berlinetta - One of the most attractive, powerful and significant Ferraris of its time, this 250 GT possesses a beautiful Scaglietti body designed by Pinin Farina. This car is the last Tour de France built in 1959 as was sold by famed American importer Luigi Chinetti to racer Bob Grossman, who competed in it with co-driver Walter Luftman at Montgomery, NY, and the Lime Rock and Bridgehampton race tracks. With a documented history since new, this particular 250 GT also has competed in the Shell Historic Ferrari Challenge and the Monterey Historics. (Est: $1,200,000 to $1,400,000)

“Every August, RM brings an outstanding line up of the world’s finest motor cars to Monterey and 2005 will be the biggest and best collection we have ever consigned for this event,” said Rob Myers, co-founder of RM Auctions. “Whether it is a significant historical vehicle, or sports car with a rich racing provenance, RM’s annual Monterey sale is recognized as the most important auction event in North America for investment quality automobiles.”

In addition to the auction activities, luxury lifestyle publications Robb Report and The Robb Report Collection will host a special Robb Report Salon event during auction and preview times in the Portola’s DeAnza Ballroom, featuring an extraordinary display of international luxury products and services. Admission is offered to invited guests and subscribers of Robb Report and RM Auctions.

RM Auctions’ Monterey Sports and Classic Car Auction will be held at the Monterey Conference Center which is connected to the elegant Portola Plaza Hotel at Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey, California. Activities run from August 18, 19 & 20th with auction previews daily on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The auction sale times are Friday, August 19th and Saturday, August 20th evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
