RM AUCTIONS TO ESTABLISH NEW RECORD IN MONTEREY WITH THE LARGEST OFFERING OF VINTAGE AUTOMOBILES IN WEEKEND’S HISTORY

The Monterey Sports and Classic Car Auction

Rare European Born 1938 Talbot Lago Teardrop Coupe to Lead Record Setting Weekend at Monterey Sports & Classic Car Auction at Portola Plaza Hotel - August 19-20, 2005

BLENHEIM, Ontario, Canada (July 7, 2005) – Each year, RM Auctions organizes outstanding million dollar consignments at its annual Monterey Sports and Classic Car Auction, offering serious collectors some of the finest and most desirable automobiles available in the world today. This year’s 2005 event, set for August 19-20, 2005 at the Portola Plaza Hotel in Monterey, CA, will be the largest single offering of vintage automobiles in the history of the Monterey weekend with more than $35 million in collectable vehicles crossing the auction block over the two-day sale.

Headlining the auction is a spectacular 1938 Talbot-Lago T150 C-SS Figoni et Falaschi Teardrop Coupe valued at between $3 million and $4 million. The Teardrop Coupe, named for the seductive shape of the car’s body and fenders, is one of the world’s most fascinating and dynamic examples of French coachbuilding, with its extensive and effective use of French curves and brilliant chrome edgework. This car (chassis #90034) has remained in Europe since new having enjoyed an early racing career including a class win at the 24 hours of Spa in 1948 and represents the first time a Teardrop Coupe of this caliber has come to auction in the United States.

“Every August, RM brings an outstanding line up of the world’s finest motor cars to Monterey and 2005 will be the biggest and best collection we have ever consigned for this event,” said Rob Myers, co-founder of RM Auctions. “Whether it is a significant historical vehicle, or sports car with a rich racing provenance, RM’s annual Monterey sale is recognized as the most important auction event in North America for investment quality automobiles.”
