Vintage Motor Cars at Amelia Island

Race Champion 1953 Hudson Hornet “The Satan of Morimar” To Benefit Charities At RM Auctions’ Amelia Island Event at the Amelia Island Ritz Carlton, FL – March 11, 2006

BLENHEIM, Ontario, Canada (February 12, 2006) – A championship winning Hudson Hornet and a rare 1938 Talbot-Lago T23 Teardrop Coupe will highlight a collection of 110 significant automobiles across the auction block at RM’s “Vintage Motor Cars at Amelia Island” event on March 11, 2006 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Amelia Island, Florida. The auction, which kick starts the famed Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance weekend, will showcase an eclectic collection of rare, investment quality automobiles from nearly every decade of motoring history.

Still in unrestored “hill climb” condition, the infamous 1953 Hudson Hornet, known as the “Satan of Miramor” will be offered for public sale for the first time since 1956. This original Hudson sedan is resplendent in its dark metal-flake blue and gold finish. A hill climbing champion that out performed and out climbed many a marque including Porsches, Spitfires and Firebirds. The car sports a big-six “7X” hi-performance engine with Twin H-Power carburetors and Dragfast floor shifter. With only two careful owners from new, the Hudson remains in excellent overall condition and will offer its next owner a truly unparalleled experience behind the wheel. The Hudson will be offered “without reserve” with charitable proceeds to benefit the Amelia Island Concours charities. www.ameliaconcours.org

Highlighting the Amelia Island sale will be a magnificent 1938 Talbot-Lago T23 Teardrop Coupe. This award winning example of French deco was fashioned by famed coach builders Figoni and Falaschi. (Est. $2,500,000 - $3,000,000)

A stunning 1931 Bentley 8 Litre Sportsman Coupe will also make it’s debut on at the Ritz-Carlton. This stately motor car, by Gurney Nutting, represents the zenith of Bentley prestige and remains in excellent condition and is recognized as one of the finest examples of its kind in the world. (Est. $750,000 - $1,000,000)

In keeping with this year’s “alternative power” theme and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the landspeed record of 1906, RM is pleased to offer an exciting 1922 Stanley Steamer Touring. This Stanley five passenger touring is an original survivor of steam’s brief but historic motoring era and one of the last built. Offered without reserve from the Smoky Mountain Car Museum where is has resided comfortably for our 40 years. (Est. $35,000 - $45,000)

“This is our eighth year at Amelia and we have seen the event attracting more international interest and buyers looking for something different or special,” says RM founder Rob Myers. “To sum up this year’s collection, I would have to say “important and historic,” surmises Myers.

Some of the Amelia Island auction’s other featured highlights include a magnificent 1912 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Touring with Coachwork by Mulliner (Est. $1,000,000 - $1,250,000), a unique 1953 Chrysler Thomas Special Prototype by Ghia (Est. $450,000 - $750,000), a Murphy bodied 1929 Duesenberg Clear Vision Sedan (Est. $650,000 - $750,000), a long wheel base 1932 Duesenberg Model J LWB Dual Cowl Phaeton by Murphy (Est. $450,000 - $550,000) and an impressive variety of vehicles from the famed Smoky Mountain Car Museum to be “offered without reserve” including Billy Carter’s 1977 “Redneck Power” Pickup, a 1917 Detroit Electric and a 1930 Cord L29 Convertible sedan.

RM Auctions’ Vintage Motor Cars at Amelia Island will be held at the elegant Ritz-Carlton Hotel, an integral element of the Summer Beach Resort and Country Club on Amelia Island, located at 4750 Amelia Island Parkway just north of Jacksonville, Florida.
