1929 DUESENBERG MODEL J SELLS NEAR MILLION DOLLAR MARK

Vintage Motor Cars At Meadow Brook Hall

Rare Supercharged 1929 Stutz Model Brings $715,000, More Than 20 Cars Top $100,000

BLENHEIM, Ontario, Canada (August 9, 2006) – RM Auctions’ annual Vintage Motor Cars at Meadow Brook Classic Car auction, hosted on August 5, 2006 on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, in conjunction with the world-renowned Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance, was a resounding success, with 86% of the consigned vehicles sold. Total sales for the single-day auction exceeded $8.8 million, with 22 vehicles topping the $100,000 mark. Distinctive coach-built pre-war classics were the vehicles that fueled collector interest and investor bidding, as pre-war cars accounted for the top 18 sales of the event.

“We continue to see strong prices for pre-war classic cars,” said Rob Myers of RM Auctions. “The elegant body styling and advanced engineering of the era combined with the limited quantity of existing examples make these models extremely collectible and we anticipate the market to remain solid for a very long time.”

This year’s headliner and top seller was an elegant 1929 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Sedan that shattered its pre-sale estimate with a final hammer price of $907,000. Widely regarded as the most outstanding example of design and engineering of the classic era, the Duesenberg Model J was the most expensive car in America at $20,000 when it debuted in 1929 (the typical family car cost $500).

Another classic that sparked spirited bidding was an extremely rare 1929 Stutz Model M Supercharged Coupe by Lancefield, one of only two supercharged Stutzes known to still exist of the original 24 produced. A winner of Best in Class honors at the 50th Anniversary Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, this amazing Stutz also exceeded its pre-sale estimate of $475,000- $675,000, closing out with a high bid of $715,000.

Other top-selling vintage motor cars in the sale included: · A 1933 Cadillac V-16 Model 452-C Convertible Phaeton - $682,000 · A 1914 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost which was owned by Stanley Bond, a close personal friend of King George V - $495,000. · A 1931 Cadillac V16 Sport Phaeton - $495,000 · A 1915 Stutz Bearcat - $368,500

RM also offered the William F. Mulhearn Collection of Fine Scratchbuilt and Handmade Scale Models at the Meadow Brook sale. The 500-plus collection represents over 20 years of collecting by Mr. Mulhearn and showcases the very best scale models ever built ranging in size from 1:8 scale to 1:43 scale. The top seller from this collection was a meticulous 1927 Bugatti T35 from Michele Conti that sold for $23,000. Another Conti design of a Ferrari 275 GTB4 NART Spyder sold for $16,100.
