1995 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet

Documents: German Fahrzeugbrief

  • One of 14 produced by Porsche Exclusive
  • Twenty years of single ownership and 32,200 km from new
  • Believed to have been commissioned by Willi Weber

The Porsche 993 Turbo Cabriolet: words that never received any marketing for the simple reason that to the average man or Porsche owner, it never existed.

It was the brainchild of Fritz Haberl, owner of the MAHAG Porsche in Munich. After the launch of the new 993-generation Cabriolet at the 1993 Geneva Motor Show, Haberl approached executives at Porsche, suggesting a limited-edition, turbocharged Cabriolet. Given MAHAG’s heritage and Porsche’s financial difficulties, Porsche agreed to Haberl’s suggestion, albeit at a price. The only other caveat to the significant cost was a minimum order of 10 cars, which Haberl agreed.

The engine and drivetrain were sourced from the outgoing 964 Turbo. Power was rated at 360 bhp, and despite the structural differences between coupe and cabriolet, the M64/50 3.6-litre single turbocharged unit was successfully incorporated into the back of the 993 body-shell. To complete the upgrade, Porsche Exclusive widened the rear wheel arches to Turbo specification and the X93 option spoiler from the 964 Turbo S was fitted. The new multi-link rear setup enabled the 993 chassis to deploy large amounts of power whilst still remaining stable.

The price for all of the work was an eye-watering 240,300 DM, 89,500 DM more than the standard 993 Cabriolet. Just 14 specially commissioned cars were sold in total. Porsche even gave them their own production designation and a unique VIN series.

Believed to have been commissioned by Willi Weber, Michael Schumacher’s long-time manager, it is specified in black with matching black leather interior and a maroon soft top, and it presents in fine, original condition. Interior options include carbon fibre trim to the steering wheel, instrument binnacle, gear-stick, hand brake and door cards. The wheels are colour-coded to the bodywork with a polished lip, behind which sit silver painted callipers. This example is also noteworthy for featuring a special gearbox with no clutch sourced from RUF but installed by Porsche Exclusive. It has been with its current owner since February 1997 and has had no expense spared on its upkeep. The car has been recently fitted with four new tires for its German TÜV.

One of 14 built, this is an exceptional opportunity to purchase one of the rarest Porsches in the world and deserves consideration from the most discerning Porsche aficionados.
